Browns try to stay warm

It is noon, an hour before kickoff, and Phil Dawson is practicing field goals from 45 yards while wearing a heavy knee-length orange coat. His kick just hit the crossbar.

The grounds crew is trying to clear the field of snow along the sidelines and end lines. Brave fans are trickling toward their seats. It is bitterly cold. The tarp was removed about 8:30 a.m. The temperature is 16 degrees.

Three Browns starters are not in uniform. Rex Hadnot is starting at right guard for Floyd Womack (knee), Womack is starting for John St. Clair (ankle0 at right tackle and Corey Williams is starting for Kenyon Coleman (ankle, elbow) at defensive end.

The Jaguars won't have starting corner back Rashean Mathis, wide receiver Torry Holt or tight end Mercedes Lewis.

The wind is gusting in the open end of the stadium. Stick to the ground with your play calling, Brian Daboll.
